Harvey Levy
Harvey Levy began performing in the early 60's as a folk singer in Montreal. As a founding member of the folk trio Norfolk Singers, he played coffee houses and university events in the heyday of the Montreal folk scene.
In the early 70's he performed with Garlik, a four piece country- rock band, playing out of Tofino, BC. The band was made up of commercial fishermen performing in the Ucluelet - Tofino area during the off season. Harvey and band mate John Burrage eventually broke from Garlik and formed the duo Black Stone to tour BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan in the mid 70's.
In 1989 Harvey started writing in earnest when he teamed up with Nashville guitarist Lee Solomon and formed Tenn-Can Productions. Harvey and Lee have been writing continuously since that time and most of Harvey's debut album Cowboys and Angels is made up of Levy - Solomon songs.
Winnipeg country performer and recording artist Ray Martin formerly of the Foster Martin Band, began writing with Harvey in 2003. Two Levy - Martin songs appear on Cowboys and Angels. Jack and Lucy won 'Best Song' in the 2005 MCMA province-wide song writing competition.
Harvey continues to perform as a solo performer and with Ray Martin in the Winnipeg area. He has performed at The West End Cultural Centre, Bread and Circuses, Red River College, Academy Bar and Eatery and Niakwa Golf and Country Club.
Harvey's combination of humour, storytelling and original songs are guaranteed to entertain. Hear songs from Cowboys and Angels at www.harveylevy.com .
Ray Martin
Winner of 22 MCMA awards & 4 international song writing awards
3 Time CCMA nominee
2 Time WCMA nominee
Ray was the front man and lead vocalist for the Foster Martin Band until the fall of 2003 when he retired from the group to spend more time with family and song writing. Ray and long time friend and band mate Lyle Foster co-wrote most of the songs for the 5 FMB albums.
Ray has started his first solo project, writing with a lot of different people which has turned out to be a great experience. When it comes to music, his passion is song writing, and it shows with the messages and stories he delivers in all of his songs.
Since his departure from the band, Ray has continued to perform live. He sings in a gospel quartet with Ray St.Germain, performs in personal care homes with one of the quartet members Lorlie Barkman. He has a duet with co-writer Harvey Levy performing at various fund raising events.
And last but not least, never misses a chance at performing in a songwriter's circle.
He has been married to his wife Pat for 35 years. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren, with the 6th due in March 2009.
Ray is the owner of a CD manufacturing company called Razor Productions, as well as a small home renovation company called A Little R&R Home Improvements with long time friend and FMB band mate Ray Grenier.
He currently sits on the Board of Directors for Manitoba Music and was the co-chair of the host committee for the 2008 CCMA's in Winnipeg.
